Scratch and dent dishwashers

A built-in dishwasher is the most hidden appliance in the kitchen. The tub sits under the countertop between cabinets, so the only visible part is the door panel.

What to check before you buy

  • Look at the door panel and the control strip on top of the door. These are the only surfaces you will see.
  • Check the tub inside for cracks and the racks for broken tines or missing wheels.
  • Make sure the mounting brackets and the toe kick are included.
  • Confirm the warranty: a dishwasher with outer-tub damage usually keeps its manufacturer coverage, but ask.

Noise rating

Dishwashers are rated in decibels (dBA). Every few decibels lower is a noticeable difference in an open kitchen.
